The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second consecutive year.

The twenty-seven-year-old captured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – including successfully defending the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.

A Season of Dominance

Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.

The star player also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the entire year as the world number one, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.

This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.

Historic Achievements

Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and collected a historic £11m in tournament winnings.

She earned nearly 80% of the votes cast by international tennis media.

Later this month, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a greater prominence".

Additional WTA Award Honorees

• Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking extended hiatus after the arrival of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
• Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after beginning the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
• Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after winning their second career Grand Slam title together.
• Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five championship matches.

Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
