The President Calls Families of Attacked Military Personnel to the White House
President Trump revealed on the weekend that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the White House.
He added that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Heartbreaking Incident
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a violent incident on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their remembrance.
Presidential Offer
The president said he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the families of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president addressed the press. “And similarly with him, recover or not.”
Community Response
Attendees assembled over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been working with the military unit as part of the president’s government program to assist public safety in DC.
Honoring Beckstrom
“She was the individual that teachers wished for. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that lifted those around her,” the principal, the leader of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the press. “She was kind, considerate and always eager to help others.”
Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Measures and Government Changes
Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The event prompted the administration to suspend refugee claims and temporarily stop issuing entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader the governor stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general told the program that she also intended to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had fortitude,” he informed the audience at the service. “Though her life ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
