The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.

It might not have been at the equivalent scale as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.

“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The animal, provided by a local firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Each year, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
