The former Liverpool manager states a return to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.

The German coach, who departed from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains an option. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-season tenure that included continental glory and the Premier League crown since 1990, now holds positions as head of global soccer within the Red Bull organization and providing guidance for the DFL.

Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks

They secured the Premier League under Arne Slot, but many fans holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the notion that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he explained to the podcast host: “I said I refuse to lead another team on English soil. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”

“I’m 58, so I could make the decision down the line, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I can just see how things unfold.”

Conditions for a Comeback

Pressed on which situations would need to occur to draw him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; No desire to be during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for interviews multiple times weekly or doing numerous chats a week.

“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, yet sharing a meal with the team having a nice chat, that’s nice. Success was frequent thus frequently a very good mood at the club. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled for example.”

Praise for His Successor

Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, acknowledging his role for the adjustments which secured the championship in the previous season. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in every contest after a summer spending spree, though he denied the suggestion that it might signal a decline.

“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. The French striker, superb talent. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”

Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward

Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Jota, a player he signed in 2020, and its impact on Liverpool. Jota lost his life in a car crash alongside his brother this past summer.

“Can you substitute a person like him? It’s not about his footballing ability, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the team environment missing him. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A devastating blow for all the boys too. Not a single person might employ it for poor performances yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that individually is not easy. Overwhelming.”
