That Grisly Animated Film Conclusion That Haunts Audiences

Out of every adult-oriented animated films I’ve ever viewed, no other has stuck with me as much as the dread-soaked conclusion of a viscerally violent as well as overwhelingly transgressive film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.

In the year 2015, this Spanish filmmaker developed a grim, somber and frequently brutal universe with a few small , forlorn twinges of optimism.

Although Unicorn Wars seems like it originated from a drive to push the medium further, the filmmaker explained that it was actually an attempt to communicate a universal, multicultural theme concerning “the mutual source of all wars.”

This theme is conveyed through a band of vividly colored bears , obviously based on a well-known line of lovable figures.

Maturing in a culture focused on aggression and the war machine, many of these animals are consumed by slaughtering unicorns, because of a holy book that claims the bears they used to be kings of the woods, before these creatures drove them out.

A few did not entirely fallen for the indoctrination, , choose to sample drugs or engage sexually outdoors.

Unlike their gentle counterparts, these vivid animals have visible genitals , definite urges.

For one especially vicious, skeptical animal, the bear named Bluey, the conflict with unicorns turns into a route toward dominance — and particularly to supremacy above his gentler, kinder brother the bear Tubby.

Bluey behaves aggressively , a seeming sociopath , and when terror overcomes his unit and kills his teammates individually, he takes progressively power on his own behalf, in increasingly gory, destructive ways.

At the same time, these mythical beings are suffering their own terror, through an expanding, harmful creature in their woods.

“In the early stages, it appears as a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker commented. “But then it becomes a more dramatic and sad movie. And in the finale, it transforms into a scary feature.”

The Unicorn Wars begins feeling a bit like one of the more whimsical movies by a legendary filmmaker, that uncover a wicked pleasure in permitting drawn beings swear, engage in violence, or have intimate relations.

Afterward it becomes something more like a bleaker movie from that artist, with increasingly visual gore , a tangible connection to the real horror of conflict.

By the end, it’s a complete Grand Guignol bloodbath.

The horror that makes the film a Halloween-friendly movie starts a lot earlier than that description suggests.

The Unicorn Wars is ideal for the most dedicated gorehounds, for fans of extreme cinema who want to see a movie they haven’t ever seen on-screen before, and are able to withstand a story that offers absolutely no punches.

View it in a dimly lit space free from interruptions, and that ending will crawl into your mind and take up residence there.
