Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening stating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.
The organization did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Posted on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, posted a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the first six games of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people hurt. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
