'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Relatives of Missing Teenagers Await Information After Alpine Fire
The families of teens lost after a deadly fire at a bar in a Switzerland's winter destination are confronting an agonising period of uncertainty for answers and requesting clues about their family members publicly.
The fire engulfed the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of the Valais region, in the early hours of the first day of the year. Verified video reveal the ceiling igniting as bottles with fireworks are held aloft.
Officials have indicated that it could take an extended period to formally name the victims of the fire, which killed four dozen individuals and wounded another over a hundred. A spokesperson noted on Friday that the majority of the injured have been identified, with efforts ongoing to name the other six.
In the meantime, loved ones have been posting on social media to plead for clues about their loved ones who were at the bar that night.
Desperate Searches for the Missing
The location of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, 16, are still unconfirmed, according to an public plea from his parent.
The resident of Lutry near the city, explained to a publication that she had returned to the city to see if he was in the medical facility, while his father did the same in the capital, but did not locate him.
"This is a living nightmare, a nightmare. Either I find my son in the morgue, or I find him in critical condition. It's horrific," she stated.
She added that some of his peers had been located with burns covering nearly half their bodies. "There are no words; they endured an absolute nightmare."
The Italian government has confirmed that a number of of its young people have not been located.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage junior golfer, who hailed from Genoa but now living in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has said that he is dead, without mentioning the fire, paying tribute to a "talented young man who embodied dedication and true sportsmanship."
His father, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An representative has stated that a formal confirmation of his death is awaited.
Additional Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is likewise among the missing. His parent told reporters that he had been on vacation but had gone out with friends and found himself at the bar.
"Someone with him informed me they fled after the fire started and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he they were separated," she explained, adding he had been wearing a identifiable piece of jewelry.
