Three police officers perished and no fewer than 15 additional individuals were hurt in what appears to be premeditated gas explosion at a country home in the northern part of Italy.

Event Timeline

The blast was triggered as officers and emergency crews entered the house close to the Verona region to enforce an eviction order for two brothers and a sister aged in their 50s and 60s.

All three deceased individuals served in the Italian military police.

Investigation Developments

A man and a woman were taken into custody at the site and another man who fled after the incident was found soon after. All three have been taken to medical facility.

The blast could be noticed as far as 3 miles distant and photographs from the area showed the building turned into a heap of debris.

“This is a time for grieving,” stated Interior Minister the Interior Minister, who added that attempts had been made to displace the three siblings in the previous occasions.

The official believed the explosion had taken place on a story above the access point and told the press it was a “deliberate and pre-planned murder”. Just prior to the incident, he said members had “noticed a hissing sound, likely the gas cylinders being opened”.

“Everyone was aware the circumstances were severe,” local residents stated to Italian media, mentioning that the three had in the past stated to “detonate the property” rather than vacate the property.

“The blast resulted in a ‘horrific, deeply distressing and tragic cost’.”
