Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Debates Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key changes:
- Each team has only 8 human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Actions performed by real players grant full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
- Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for gamers seeking alternative ways to have fun with the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while someone else lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Criticisms and Player Feedback
All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for different playlists because of the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the community compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
