Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's understandable for concerns to be raised about his position after a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve games, representing the club's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from the top,” the coach commented.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Discussions with Club Management

When asked to provide details on his conversations with the team officials, Slot explained:

“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they back me.”

He added, “Through standard discussions I perceive the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”

Familiar Failings and Player Reaction

Slot lamented recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He added, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase of this nature with performances this poor.”

Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until it is removed, we will always compete.”

“We will attempt to get this team back to where it needs to be, prove again what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the planet.”

“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
