A Mountain of Anime Updates Arrived Over the Holidays

The Yuletide season offer a wealth of pastimes much better than catching up on the updates: opening presents, feasting on delicious food, and using meditation skills to avoid arguing with relatives. It is wished you were able to enjoy all these things and more. That said, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling developments emerged over the festive period, and if you didn't see a few, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Moving Forward (Come 2027)

Truly the most surprising revelation, the much-discussed troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt the series' continuation. Season 3 will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they might as well have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which might be a hopeful indicator. But, the key visual for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, at this point, they could be mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the exceptional quality of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a reduced workload, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' support and goodwill, and now the community is thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works

Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only just received an English translation, but the anime has been running for some time, and season 6 was a further stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

Another studio famous for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.

Tougen Anki Will Return With a Season Two

Shortly after the release of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has yet to be revealed.
